As part of the Walnut Creek 100th Anniversary, a book has been produced showcasing important homes and people in the history of the city.
From the preface of the book:
"This project has led us to meet new friends and re—visit some of our own past. All the homes pictured here were built before World War II. Most of the families that lived in these homes were known to the author who wanted to capture some of their Legacy contributions.
Jo Ann Hanna, an acclaimed artist of these paintings, has many of her paintings in private collections in Montana and California. Some of her paintings are now designated for museum acquisitions. Jo Ann dedicated much of her time to the betterment of Walnut Creek, having served on the Planning Commission for 8 years, and continuing to work for the preservation of land on or near Mt. Diablo. Because of her long time dedication to preserve “open space,” she was named “The Mother of Open Space" by Seth Adams of the Save Mt. Diablo group.
Sally Bronson Ingraham is not an acclaimed author, but hopes you will read these stories. A graduate of U.C. Berkeley in 1950, she has dedicated many hours trying to make her home town of Walnut Creek a better place to live. She was on the original Open Space Planning Committee, served 6 years on the Walnut Creek Art Commission, was a Founding Member of The Ruth Bancroft Garden, and was on the Board to plan and build the Lesher Performing Arts Center. She is also a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Mt. Diablo chapter."
